SOME / ANY / NO

Check out an explanation of the uses of SOME, ANY and NO, plus a printable activity.

In general, some is used in positive sentences. Ex: This job is going to take some time.
Any is used in negative sentences and questions. Ex: I didn’t get any nice presents this year.
But we can use some in questions when offering/requesting. Ex: Would you like some more tea?
And we can use any in positive sentences when we mean it doesn’t matter which. Ex: You can come and ask for my help any time.
No has the same meaning of any in negative sentences but it doesn’t have the negative particle. Ex: There is no food left.
